But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”—1 Samuel 16:7 [Message]
Beauty comes in all flavors, sizes and interesting places! We humans yearn to be beautiful, just look at what is spent on all the skin care products! We also have a tendency to judge those by their good looks. In the book of Samuel we see where God doesn’t take Elilab’s stature and looks into account for the King of Israel. David was God’s man because inside David was a man after God, with deep faith which has nothing to do with looks or stature, financial status, or popularity. Last week as we walked through many forests up in the Carson National Forest I also found beauty in interesting places! Among the pine needles purple caught my eye; in the vast meadows by the Continental Divide wildflowers decorated the stumps and fields. Even in a dead stump there was a silver shined rock that caught my eye and my response was wow–beautiful!
As you go through your days, ask God to see like he does, the beauty in all of creation! After all, this is God’s gift to us and everything that God has created is GOOD!
