We Can Make An Impact In This World… Hello Hump Day readers. Have you ever thought of your impact can help in this world? It sounds a little crazy, but Jesus has asked us to do just that. Some may thing that is daunting and they walk away; others aren’t sure if they can handle it; and then there are those who want to share with the Lord. Billy Graham used to say “lots of options but choose wisely.”

I thought you might like this story about Washington Monument. I never heard this story but it is tried and true…enjoy!

In 1994, The New York Times reported that graffiti from the 1800’s was discovered by workers renovating the Washington Monument. It was quite a different tone from much of the graffiti found today on walls, railcars, and street signs. Here’s what it said:

This famous 19th-century inscription is carved into the marble wall inside the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. and can be seen today. Here is the inscription:  “Whoever is the human instrument under God in the conversion of one soul, erects a monument to his own memory more lofty and enduing than this.”

The inscription was signed with the initials, “BFB”. No one knows who that was, but this anonymous author’s words probably was a person who used graffiti, which was used a lot in those days (and even today). And now it is seen by the thousands who visit the monument each year.

The Apostle James in 5:19-20 gives us an inside power of how God wants us to share the Gospel… My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off. Go after them. Get them back and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented an epidemic of wandering away from God. -James 5:19-20 MSG

Think of those words long so long ago and they are still ringing the very true today! The words are steadfast and they are at the heart of today’s verse. Whoever God uses to turn people away from their sin and toward a faith relationship with Jesus Christ makes an impact on eternity!

Perhaps there are people in your life who you can point toward Christ. Maybe they live nearby, shop at the same store as you, or you see them in your daily routine. Whoever it is, God wants to use you to tell them about his son, Jesus Christ. Some say that’s a bit tricky, but try it—and when you do, you can be confident that you’ve made an impact that will last longer than any monument ever built!

O Lord, I pray that you can help me show these people who Jesus is and how Jesus can impact them, their families and friends with the joy of the Lord. Each one can impact eternity, may we be humble enough and wise enough to do so, AMEN.
