Truth Or Lies? …Hello Hump Day readers. I love to fact-check things so I know if the story is true or not. I’m sure most folks think it’s a waste of time, but I think it’s smart to make sure what you are saying, or someone else is saying about truths or lies. Unfortunately, in this crazy time in our country, there are more lies than truth. It’s nothing new, lies started the Garden of Eden and it’s never gone away!
I’ve always liked to hear the news, good or bad. I probably got that from my parents because they liked to know what was going on, especially my dad because, as a WWII soldier, what was going on in our country was precious to him. My dad hated lies and we learned from him that lies are hurtful and God doesn’t like lies.
For me, I can relate to those moments when everything around me seems to be chaotic. There isn’t a day when overwhelming news or other circumstances occur in our lives. For some folks, they ignore it, but for others—chaos can incur fearful, and hopelessness. And that is why we need to realize the difference between what is actually truth and what is lies.
If you want to get rid of the chaos, you need to focus on what is true—the truth that comes from God and God’s word. Here are a few unchanging truths from God’s Word:
1. God is trustworthy. “Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.” -Proverbs 3:5-6 [TPT]
2. God is for the sinner. Jesus heard them and answered, “People who are well do not need a doctor, but only those who are sick. I have not come to call respectable people, but outcasts.” -Mark 2:17 [GNT]
3. God’s grace is greater. “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” -Ephesians 2:8 [NLT]
4. God reveals his glory through his people. “You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden.” -Matthew 5:14 [ERV]
5. God works through our weaknesses. “My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness. So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak, I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me.” –2 Corinthians 12:9 [TPT]
These scriptures are not just a ‘feel-good’ for our lives, they are biblical truths that anchor our souls when we are stuck with “is this a lie or not?” These scriptures and many more are there for us so we can fix our eyes on Jesus instead of the constant lies we see and hear. We need to focus our eyes on Jesus and his unchanging character. Then we fill find the stability we need for each day.
When lies bombard you, and chaos reigns, remember the words from King David in Psalm 16:8 [GNT] “I am always aware of the Lord’s presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me.” Now that is an AMEN for sure!
