Stepping Into Memories… Hello weekend readers. Al and I are off duty and for a week we are up in Creede Colorado. It is one of our favorite places, especially the Creede Repertoire. On Wednesday we are going to ‘Moriarity’ and of course with Sherlock Holms who is constantly trying to reel his menaces. We have many memories at the Creede Repertoire! It is considered the best in America!
I have taken so many pictures just in this week, Elk, Moose, Mule Deer and Colorado’s incredible Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. We’ve had to stop for the new little ones that walk right out into the road!! Mama is there and keeps them safe. For the big daddies, they stay away until the youngsters grow up; if they try the mamas will kick the heck out of them!
Memories are something so precious. Family, church, vacations and so much more. Those are the spice of our lives as they give us memories and they also push-us out of the couch to get at there and so something!!
Each of these memories reminds me that time has passed, and I regret not appreciating the experience for those wonderful times. What do we do when another year faces us? Well, one thing to do is stop time and stay open those memories, pictures, and so much more. After all life rolls on and before we know it everything changes—again!
The Apostle Paul spoke with the Philippians about focus, memories and more because he wanted them to remember those times and how God held them in his hands: “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”
-Philippians 3:12-13 (The Message Translation)
A favorite movie scene that Al and I like comes to mind. In “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, Indiana Jones needs to cross a deep gorge to get the sacred chalice that would save his father. There appears to be no way to get across. Yet realizing the challenge is a test of his faith, he steps off the ledge, and a bridge that hadn’t been visible appears for him to cross. True, that’s a movie scene, but honestly, don’t you thing that is like a new thing that sometimes can come each day? In fact, every day is a step of faith, trusting God to get us through as He’s done before. And God wants us to enjoy our loves, because in doing we realize the memories give us joy and laughter.
Oh, remember the song ‘Memories’ by Barbara Streisand. Listen to it, think of the deep words and take a big step into memories and the ones you want for you loved ones.
Get together with a potluck or got to a movie…just do it and you will find those memories will sit in your heart with joy and when you are down and out, pull the memories out and say “God, I need a new perspective today, help!” He will be right there for you. Remember, God gives us our memories as a precious gift, allowing us to build relationships, learn from our past, and cherish His faithfulness. AMEN!
