“But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream!” -Amos 5:24 [ASV]
A Time to Think… on this MLK Day, lets read a few quotes he left us…
“You can kill the dreamer, but you can’t kill the dream.”
“Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.”
“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
“The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.”
“I am not interested in power for power’s sake, but I’m interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good.”
“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”
“Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.”
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
“The time is always right to do what is right.”
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
A Time to Act…
On this day, may each and every one of us take some moments and ask ourselves what we are doing to transforming our lives and other lives. Where are we with racism, hate, and retaliation. How can our faith step in when we need to do what is right?
A Time to Pray…
O Lord of all, you have created all people in your image and you love them despite the fact that many do not love you. Help us to share your love so others can be freed from the emotional prisons they live in. May we always embrace ‘the time is always right to do what is right’ and with you, O Lord, we can do so. AMEN.
