But you, Bethlehem of Ephrathah, of the clans of Judah,
are no poor relation for f
rom your people will come
a Ruler
who will be the shepherd of My people Israel,
whose origins date back to the distant past, to the ancient days.

-Micah 5:2 [The Voice]

A Time to Think … “Our annual repetitions of the Christ story keep us grounded in ancient truths. In an age when technology has taught us to worship innovation, our faith reminds us that our origins are of old, and that God is our benevolent Creator.” ” ―Rev. Steve Holm, Pastor, Author of Daily Devotions for Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center

A Time to Act … As you continue your Christmas readiness, take a moment to think about the past. What ancient truths do you celebrate each year and why? Once you’ve pointed them out, give God grateful thanks that what was said eons ago remains stable and “truth-worthy” today!

A Time to Pray… O God, you have given us your Son, Jesus, the greatest gift we could ever want or need. During this season of Christmas, help us to put Jesus first. Holy Spirit stir within us a new JOY for this season that leads us to continue enjoying the past, embracing the present, and finding hope for our future. In the name of Jesus—the Christ who saves us we pray, AMEN.
