“Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God! Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills. Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places. Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. The Lord has spoken!” -Isaiah 40:3-5 [NLT]
A Time to Act…
“Into this world, this demented inn in which there is absolutely no room for him at all, Christ comes uninvited.” -Thomas Merton, American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet (c.1915-1968)
A Time to Think…
During the Christmas holiday we are bombarded with emails, texts, mails and constant calls for money. It’s hard to decide who is scamming us and those who are legit. Sometimes this season of hope, joy, love and peace turns into a fracas. Turn it off and wait for the uninvited, like Jesus who comes even when not invited. So many need the joys the Christ Child gives.
A Time to Pray…
O Lord, I confess that way too often the gift of Christmas is not you, but the stuff we want to buy and give. Yet, there you are, not even on our invitation list, coming into our hearts not only at Christmas but every day of our lives. Forgive me for forgetting you and what this season is truly about. Teach me to be an ‘inviter’ for those in need. AMEN.
