What Truth Do You Want To Live By? …Hello weekend readers. I have been musing on TRUTH. It seems that truth has been twisted in our society and we all can make our own truths whether they are true or not. To be honest it’s puzzling to me because I have always learned that truth comes from God and God’s truth is always true but many don’t think that way. I like to fact-check stuff so it is true, but now with AI I back-off, is it true or not? So, here is a rather funny true story about two men who lived in a small village who got into a terrible dispute that neither of them could resolve. Here’s the story from the town’s sage:

One night, the first man went to the town sage and told him his version of the story. When he was finished, the sage said, “You’re absolutely right.” The next night, the second man went to the sage and told his side of the story. After he’d said his piece, the sage told him, “You’re absolutely right.” That’s when the sage’s wife got upset and scolded her husband saying, “These two men told you completely different stories, and you told them both they were right. They both can’t be absolutely right so why did you say that?” The sage sighed and said, “my dear woman, you’re absolutely right.”

Obviously the two had different opinions! – and that is what the problem is, our own opinions which may or may not be the truth. In this day and age, more and more people are choosing consensus over truth. In fact, even many spiritual leaders today validate every system of belief as separate paths to God. But the reality is if two people say very opposite things about God, they both can’t be right!

So what gives? Sadly, these opposing ideas are the truths people want to hear whether it is true or not. They want to be right, whether it is true or not. And worse yet, many of them say they are believers in Christ. I’ve heard many times about non-truths: “Oh, you got it wrong, I know what Jesus said” when honestly, it was NOT what Jesus said at all!

These non-truths confuse people—it’s no wonder when Christians share non-truths folks become skeptical and they quickly back off from thinking of trying Christianity … and that certainly gives a dark shadow against the Gospel!

Listening to non-truths takes away the confidence we have in Christ. Religions that are not Christians say “we teach man how to reach God” but that is NOT what is in the Scriptures. It is a non-truth. Christianity teaches that “God reached down to us in the person of Jesus Christ and that is the only way and it is truly the truth.”

Remember Jesus’ words in John 14:6 [TPT] Jesus explained, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Father except through union with me. To know me is to know my Father too.”

Jesus is so different from any other spiritual leader. He didn’t come to show the way; He came to BE THE WAY! And that is why we can put our trust in Him alone and know that his truth is perfect and so we then share with those who do not know the Lord so they can find the solid truth of God.

In John 8:32, Jesus says “The Truth will set you free.” We need to remember those words when we get caught up in non-truths. It’s so easy to twist the truth so it makes us feel better or look better—but we’re fooling ourselves when we do this and we are degrading the power of the Gospel. So think about this question: “What truth do you really want to live by?” It is your choice, so choose wisely. AMEN.
