We Need To Flip-the-Script! …Hello weekend readers. I hope your summer June is going well and, tomorrow, let’s get a shout-out for our fathers—whether living or not. We are grateful for their leading and love. And, for those whose dads were not there for you, shout-out a praise to God, your Heavenly Father, who has been with you always, no matter what!

My musings this weekend come from a few conversations that Al and I had when we got to the campground this year as we reminisced about last year! Why? Read on…

Last year when we got to the campground, in about 2 weeks I was miserable. My shoulder was frozen like a block of ice, and my neck and back hurt beyond hurting. I called my chiropractor in Phoenix and his words were “Cyndy, when you repeatedly operate out of alignment, you are now training your body to compensate for those injuries you have had in the past (racing snowmobiles/cars/downhill skiing-etc), and that causes further damage.”

Darn, but I already knew that I just didn’t want to face it. However, hearing his words gave me the push to continue for the 6 months here with a good Gonstead chiropractor and I did. Like my doctor in Arizona, he shared an interesting twist about our spines! He told me that our spine can go out of alignment just because our nervous system gets ‘stuck in a stressed or tense state’! We think of physical things, but this was mental and look what it can do with our physical bodies-wow! I don’t like being stuck! And that is the conversation Al and I talked about a few weeks ago because we were both so happy that my neck, shoulders and spine were in-line and I was out of pain and enjoying our work and our recreation times!

Like the spine, our own emotions, worries, anxieties and so much more, bind us up until we are stuck. Then we easily play into the fear and the stories we tell ourselves. This doesn’t help us one bit, but we listen to them anyway—until they are embedded in our minds!

Well, it’s time for us to ‘flip-the-script’ on what we say to ourselves and have a talk with the One who is true and faithful to us—our loving God. Read below what the Bible says about you “right now” and what it looks like to flip-the-script, aligning yourself with God’s truth instead of the stories you’ve been telling to yourself. These 3 ideas are from Ruth Chou Simons, a favorite writer of mine from Proverbs 31 Ministries. I think you’ll like her 3 ideas!

1-Your hard season is ultimately light and momentary.
“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 2 Corinthians 4:17 [NLT]

2-Your hard season is refining you.
“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” 1 Peter 1:6-7 [NLT]

3-Your hard season is producing endurance.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.” [Romans 5:3 NLT]

In closing, let’s ask ourselves if we are stuck with the stories we say to ourselves. And then, let’s get un-stuck by reading God’s stories for us in the Scriptures. The power of God’s Word will help us to drop the stories that are not truth and fill our minds with the pure truth, grace, love, care and goodness God has for us all-the-time. Isn’t it time we begin to flip-the-script on our hard seasons, and revel in the joy of the Lord? Indeed! AMEN.
