Invite Jesus Into Your Day… Hello Hump Day readers. Here we are, the middle of the week and how do we get over the hump to the end of the week? Well, there are a lot of ideas out there for just that! If you are like me, I’ve tried some of them and most of them fell flat. I’m not sure what my anticipation for this idea was supposed to work, but it didn’t. My Thursday became Wednesday and then Friday, etc. I think I ‘over expected my expectations’! So, I turned to a podcast from one of my favorite writers, Erin Keeley Marshall, and in those 8 minutes with her, I realized why my “Hump Day idea” didn’t work. Why? Because I didn’t invite Jesus into my day!
How about you, have you thought about that each morning? I know I haven’t, I just get ready and start without putting things in places that would make my day a lot easier! It’s easy to look at my to-do list each day and then struggle to keep the various activities I wanted. Stuff gets in the way doesn’t it? When this happens for me, my best thing is to get into the Scriptures and that’s what I did. There are a LOT of them so I took my time to find what would “make my day” – so to think.
In John 21:25 using the Message Translation, I found what I needed: “There are so many other things Jesus did. If they were all written down, each of them, one by one, I can’t imagine a world big enough to hold such a library of books. Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
This Scripture captivated me and I thought “gosh, I could sit with the hope of this verse for a long time because it’s limitless! The Apostle John was referring to the things Jesus did during the 3 years of his ministry with us on earth. Let’s face it, working three years is not a long time to fill enough books that overfill the world but that’s what Jesus did and spoke. That’s a lot of accomplishments. And don’t forget, this was more than 2,000 years ago—no phones, no computers, etc. I just imagined how much Jesus has done since his years walking the earth—without earth’s limitations. It’s almost impossible to grasp it all!
After reading this passage I got a “nudge” from the Holy Spirit, who has a way of tapping my mind! And it led me to Luke 10:39-42 [TPT]: “As Jesus and the disciples continued on their journey-they came to a village where a woman welcomed Jesus into her home. Her name was Martha and she had a sister named Mary. Mary sat down attentively before the Master absorbing every revelation he shared. But Martha became exasperated with finishing the numerous household chores in preparation for her guests so she interrupted Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t you think it’s unfair that my sister left me to do all the work by myself? You should tell her to get up and help me.” The Lord answered her, “Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”
This passage reminded me that Jesus doesn’t demand I fill books from my accomplishments, etc. Instead Jesus invites me to sit and listen, and experience and accept the peace Jesus has for me and the wisdom to keep me on the path he has laid out for me.
In closing, I urge us all to daily invite Jesus into our day because then we can rest in the limitless works of Jesus and let his presence bring order and peace to our day. There is no other who can do this but our Savior. In fact, say this outload: “Ask Jesus to surprise you with more of himself today!” After all, this is Jesus, and he can do anything, AMEN!
