“Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10 [LB]
A Time of Remembrance for the landing of D-Day
During World War II, troops were given a pocket Bible in which was included a letter from US President Franklin Roosevelt encouraging them to read it. The letter reads:
To the Armed Forces:
“As Commander-in-Chief, I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.”
With my prayers for each and every one of you, a very sincerely yours, Franklin D. Roosevelt.
A Time to Act…
On this day, may we act with honor and thankfulness for those soldiers who landed on D-Day. Many never made it home, many were hurt yet they kept on going. My father was one of them. He shared his story of D-Day with us and I am forever grateful for his bravery and his faith in God that has shaped my mind.
A Time to Prayer… A Prayer on the 81 Anniversary of D-Day
As we commemorate the 81 anniversary of the D-Day landings, here is a prayer to remember the courageous actions of those involved.
God our refuge and strength, as we remember those who faced danger and death in Normandy, eighty-one years ago, grant us courage to pursue what is right, the will to work with others, and strength to overcome tyranny and oppression, through Jesus Christ, to whom belong dominion and glory, now and forever, AMEN.
