“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the supple moves of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves.” -Matthew 4:44-46 The Message
A Time to Think…
“The practice of forgiveness is our most important contribution to the healing of the world.” -Marianne Williamson, author, speaker, and political activist
A Time to Act…
In this tumultuous time, it is hard to think things will get better so we get bitter. Never dwell on bitterness, anger and despair because it will pull you down before you even know it. Adopt the practice of forgiveness—for yourself and others. It’s the only way you can heal.
A Time to Pray…
O Lord, one of Your most precious gifts is forgiveness. How I thank You for that, and yet when I am angry, I easily forget that gift. We are all sinners; we have no reason to judge or be bitter but we do. Help me to forgive others, help me to forgive myself, for in that giving I find your precious love and wisdom I need in my life. AMEN.
