What Is Meekness?
Hello weekend readers. My musings on the word ‘meekness’ is what I want to share with you all about what meekness is and believe it or not, how powerful it is! So, buckle up and get your meekness going!
Today, the word ‘meekness’ will have people laughing at you because they think you cannot do anything, you are meek and that is, to them, not good. It’s like you don’t have any brains and you cannot do anything and believe me, that is totally wrong.
W. Tozer, was an American Christian and Missionary Alliance pastor, preacher, editor and devotional writer. He is one of my favorites, and he has no problem of telling what is good and what is not! This is what he says about “the meek” …
“The meek—you and me—is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of its own inferiority. Rather it may be in us that the moral life is as bold as a lion and as strong as Samson; but, it’s stopped being fooled about ourselves. Instead, we must accepted God’s estimate of our own lives, knowing that we can be as weak and helpless as God declared us to be—but paradoxically, we know at the same time that we are in the sight of God of more importance than even the angels! In ourselves there is nothing; in God, there is everything. That is the motto we must learn and use.”
So often today, the Christian value of meekness is overlooked, and often times completely disregarded and often laughed at. Much of this attitude has come about as a result of Christians who misunderstand what meekness really is because we fall into the society who says “meekness is a mouse” and you’ll never get anywhere in this life is you are meek.
This is where we need to stop and realize that a meek person is not one with an inferiority complex! Instead, it is quite the opposite and most people don’t believe it. Meekness is a characteristic within us which creates boldness and strength! Yet at the same time causes us to humbly understand that everything good in our lives comes from God, not from ourselves.
The Apostle Matthew stated this characteristic of ‘meek’ very boldly in Scripture: “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.” -Matthew 5:5 MSG
Jesus only gave the promise to inherit the earth to one group of people: the meek. So, as you live your life, be both bold and strong in your faith while also practicing humble and quiet in your boasting. And always remember God’s faithfulness through every season from meek to strong. God will always continue to give you the boldness in your faith and the gentle meek and humble heart.
Be meek … because the reward is great — and you’ll inherit the earth!!
