God Starts With The Impossible! …Hello Hump Day readers. Question: what does ‘impossible’ mean to you? For me, it’s just a downer for so many things I’d like to do or have but in the end—it’s impossible! What thing or place that you would love to go to or have seems impossible?
I admit I have prayed for some things that I was pretty sure wouldn’t happen, but I prayed anyway, especially for a red Corvette…God knew my lead-foot and he didn’t want me to live in jail–well that’s what I say.
Obviously, today’s devotion is the word ‘impossible’. I’m pretty sure we’ve all been wanting something whether it is something we need or just want, but the prospects of getting it are out of our range. “It’s impossible” we say. Sadly, perhaps sometimes it isn’t, but if we can’t have it now, we think it will never happen.
God has quite a few things to tell us about the word ‘impossible’. First, he reminds us that with him, nothing is impossible! So what does that tell us? For some they say, “I’ve asked God but what I wanted didn’t come through so why bother.” Others who do not have faith in God don’t care; they either get what they want or they go on to something else.
Have you ever had someone tell you “I’ve prayed for wonders and miracles and God never showed up.” I hear it a lot from folks at the campground, my family and friends. I hear it from my own words as well. The question is, “If we believe in God we should know that God can do the impossible” yet we quit often. Why? Because we need it right now. It’s like God is our ‘Genie’ and when we click our fingers he will do our bidding. And how has that been working for you? I think we all know the answer.
We ask God to do something great, but then feel hesitant when a step of faith is required from God that we might not want to do. So, again we walk away. Let’s face it, we can all testify that following Jesus isn’t a life without risk. Yet, God starts with the impossible and does miracles. Our problem is we want the miracles we want instead of what miracles God has for us. When Al and I decided to buy a grocery store when we lived in Wisconsin, we thought this would be a great way to make money, etc. With a few words I can tell you we were wrong. Did we ask God to be in this enterprise? No, but when things started to go bad, out came that question that we all have said, “God where are you, can’t you fix this thing?”
God has prepared things for those who love Him that no eye has seen and no heart has conceived. These aren’t just future promises—they’re present realities waiting to unfold as we step out in faith. In 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 [GNT] the Apostle Paul nails it down about our “impossible God” and what he has for us:
“We speak about the mystery of God’s wisdom. It is a wisdom that has been hidden, which God had planned for our glory before the world began. Not one of the rulers of this world has known it. If they had, they wouldn’t have crucified the Lord of glory. But as Scripture says: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.”
So dear friends, remember this: Impossible is Where God Starts! Miracles are What God Does! Today, take time to reflect on those “impossible situations” you’re battling with. God already knows what you need, but sit with him, and invite him into your story. You can trust God—so take that step of faith today knowing God can do the impossible for you! AMEN.
