“Quietly trust yourself to Christ your Lord, and if anybody asks why you believe as you do, be ready to tell him, and do it in a gentle and respectful way.” -The U.S. Coast Guard’s chosen Scripture from 1 Peter 3:15 [TLB]
We Celebrate the 235th Year of the Coast Guard!
The Coast Guard is one of the oldest organizations of the federal government. Established in 1790, the Coast Guard served as the nation’s only armed force on the sea until Congress launched the Navy Department eight years later. Members of the Coast Guard, both active and former, are commonly called Coasties. The formal term for a uniformed member is Coast Guardsman or Coast Guardsmen, regardless of gender. Since then, the Coast Guard has protected the United States throughout its long history and served proudly in every one of the nation’s conflicts!!
The Coast Guard Prayer
Let us pray. Almighty God, Father of all mercies; we gather before you this morning in gratitude for our lives, our liberties, our country, for the men and women here who offer their own lives to protect these things, and for their families who bear that sacrifice with them. Continue your favor upon the United States Coast Guard that we may be always prepared to accomplish every mission and to make every sacrifice for the service and protection of the citizens of this great country. May your blessing be upon everyone present here today as we go forth in greater awareness of your goodness. We pray in the Name of the One who was, and is, and ever shall be, Amen.
