“We love because he first loved us.
From the beginning in Eden,
God’s love always pursued us
and He continues to pursue us
through the love of Jesus the Christ.”
-1 John 4:19
A Time to Think… “You could more easily catch a hurricane in a shrimp net that you can understand the wild, relentless, passionate, uncompromising, pursuing love of God made present in the manger.” ―Fr. Brennan Manning, Priest, Author and Bible Scholar
A Time to Act… We pursue all the wrong things at the Advent/Christmas season. We think this or that will make the best gift for us and others when it is only a substitute for the real gift of Christ. As we put up our nativity sets, give us pause to look at them deeply—what stands out for us in that display? Is it the beauty of the figures, or the Christ who came to save us from our sins?
A Time to Pray… God, you love us when we are so completely unlovable. It is hard for our human minds to grasp such love and mercy because we ourselves are incapable of it. We only have to look at the Christ-Child to know you gave it all for us. Help us to keep that in our hearts and minds so we don’t get caught up in the trappings of the season. Instead of the sparkle on the tree and the lights in the window, may we be the light of Christ that pursues those in darkness that they may have the precious gift of the Gospel, AMEN.
